Painted Vintage Posing Couch

A few months ago I was at a cross road with a couch that we had purchased at a yard sale. Should we put it out by the road or could I possibly use it as a posing couch? So I did a little research and came up with a solution.......I painted it!

It was pretty easy in the end, especially after I figured out a few tricks.

Here is what the couch looked like before.

To start I made sure I swept it taped the wood legs. I tested it first on the cushion (shown above). I used regular wall paint but you could also use acrylic. Mix 1/2 paint and 1/2 textile medium that you can buy at the craft store. Textile medium is what you use to turn paint into fabric paint. Once that is done you may want to add a little water to it to keep it thin.

You are trying to get the fabric to soak a little bit of the paint up so it is not just sitting on the surface. *Very important: Use a spray bottle of water to mist the fabric first to get it wet before you start to paint, it will absorb it better. Then just paint it, taking your time to get into the nooks and crannies : )

Because of the texture of the fabric on my couch I ended up just mixing my paint with the water in another spray bottle and spraying it on and wiping it into the fabric with my hand and a sponge.

It was a little messy but in the end it was a great way to save a very cool piece of vintage furniture.

I have had a very emotional day! First it was the uncertainty of the windy weather, then it was the high after the fabulous session, then it has been the overwhelming joy of editing these shots. I know that I enjoy what I do, but today these Seniors and my new friend Becky blew me away.

A little background; I donated a session to the Planoettes Dance Squad when a friend asked. This was the session that came from that. I have always believed that if you give you receive back three-fold what you gave. Well it came all at once for me today..... Just see for yourself the beauty that we were able to find today. Getting to go to Colorado was great, getting to go to Vail was wonderful, doing both and then getting to photograph a wedding with my good friend Robin, heavenly! When she asked me to come and give her a hand I was so thrilled.

So last weekend I spent a beautiful sunny October day at the Donovan Pavillion, with two fabulous families, for one of the happiest days in their lives. Thank you to everyone, it was a joy getting to share this special day.

It's been a long and wonderful week for me. When you love what you do, even the most difficult part of your job is pleasurable. Arboretum Antics

The weather was perfect, the family was super sweet, and fun times were had by all. My favorite time was when I asked A. to jump for me.....told him "o.k. we will jump on 1, ready 3, 2, 1".......and he ran away. No jumping, just running and laughing all the way! It was hilarious! I'm always so nervous before a session because I always want to make sure I capture my families being themselves. So, when this lovely family said they would like to have their dogs in the photos I said Of course! Who can't be themselves around their pets?? And Bella and Grady did perfectly! Now would they have rather been running through the woods chasing squirrels? Most definitely.... It was a fun evening and we couldn't have asked for a better breeze and gorgeous lighting.

Camping on the Fly

Friends of ours were headed camping and on a whim, I asked if they had room for a tent on their site?? Come on, was the response. So my daughter and I packed up and headed north to Roaring River State Park in Missouri. Partly as a last minute, before school starts trip and also to escape this crazy Texas heat wave. It was a blast! We had so much fun with our friends, would do it again in a heart beat! Maybe the impromptu vacations are really the best because there are no expectations, you just go and do.....

We are launching a new "division" of Moxishots, Every Child's Fantasy!!! Such an exciting time!

A friend of mine owns a wonderful little business called Zany Fun Trunks that provides rental trunks of dress up clothes in a variety of different themes. We put our heads together and came up with such a fun idea that it makes me get giddy just thinking about it. More to come on options for the new venture but had to share a few shots from our first official session.

A great group of kiddos braved the heat and dragons to come out and step back in time with us this morning. Thanks to everyone involved!

While we were shooting, this adorable group of kiddos came up to us and said she was "like a movie star or somebody", they just knew it. She's not, but I am very lucky to call this woman, friend! She is funny, sincere, dedicated, and of course as you can see gorgeous! We made our way down to Las Colinas and the Mandalay Canal at sunset last night. We worked fast and pulled light from every source we could find. FUN, FUN, FUN! Thanks sweet lady for a great shoot! And of above all, I enjoyed your fabulous company and a yummy dinner! New Haircut

I love it when I get a last minute photo request from a friend and I have time to do it! This is the granddaughter of a dear friend and she had just gotten a new haircut. We went to this great little park in Farmers Branch and had some late evening fun with her new "do". Sundown is a fun time for photos and it always give such a nice glow and ambiance to the photos.

I was so happy when she said "This is the photo shoot I've been wanting all year"!

Joy of Love Day 1 - Capturing someone you love doing what they do

Today is the first day of a month long free e-class that I am taking offered by willette (classic children's portraiture). I am very excited about this as she gives you prompts on what to photograph. But I know this is going to be more than just a photo assignment, because the first day is for us to photograph our loved one doing what they do. I captured my daughter making cookies on our "snow day" off from school. Technically she is home schooled but somehow she got away with this being her project for the day. It is actually very cool, she made the cookies, cut them out in varying sized circles and then iced them to match the planet's colors and is using them to make a solar system model. Yea! Education at it's best. She said "Look mom, I am doing math (measuring) and science (combining ingredients)". Woohoo! She is getting it! Way to go, girlie!

This lovely bunch of girls was a pure delight to photograph! We had such a wonderful afternoon posing and laughing! This was the first time that they had been photographed outside of a studio and I think they really enjoyed it! This beautiful family came to me by way of one of my long time clients, I am very appreciative of the referral! We had a fun shoot even though we had to dodge all of the other families and photographers at the waterfall! Everyone is trying to get their Christmas photos done and we were not alone. But we worked it out and you would never know that at any given moment during our shoot there were 3 photographers around us shooting at the same time. It was a lot of fun getting to play with their fabulous 3 year old. They have a future model on their hands, she even knows all of the poses. Thanks for such an easy and relaxed shoot you guys were great!

Remember to go very early in the morning to Grapevine if you want to take photos... We had to wait in line at all of the good spots, but we persevered and boy did we get some good shots! The girls got a little chilly but their dresses were to die for, Mom did some great shopping. Wow! What a fabulous morning! I will be honest, going into this shoot I was very nervous. I wanted to make sure that Kim got images that would work for her very first album cover. I think that we got a few that will be great for either the front or the back covers. Now the hard part, which to chose??

The title is "Finally" and she has been working so hard on the music. I wanted to try and make this fun for her, I hope it shows in the images that we captured today. Ladies, it was a blast and of course I must say thanks for the cool new venues!

I am fortunate enough to have photographed I for about 4 years now! She has become such a little lady! She loves princess' and just this session did she start striking a royal pose for me. I take my daughter to Scottish Rite every afternoon for Dyslexia tutoring and the cousin of one of the other students gets to come and spend the time with us. He is such a ball of fire and so funny! When I was looking for new photo sites around the Deep Ellum area the other day I asked he and his Aunt to join me. We ended up at the train station, and he loves trains... He was especially happy when the conductor tooted the horn for him. It was a fun afternoon, a scouting trip that turned into some really fun photos of M!

Love surrounded Mason and Katie on their wedding day at Tara Vineyard in Athens, TX. I have never been to a wedding that seemed so stress free. Our lives are made whole with the love of our children and our animals and this couldn't be more evident than with this wonderful family! Spending the morning with them was a true pleasure! We have been friends for years but it is never the same when you start looking through your lens at them. Bright and shiny eyes and smiles were the highlight of this shoot. Wildflowers, Waterfalls and Wonder

Wow! Thanks Sue for suggesting this wonderful park in Richardson. It is beautiful and the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous family! The wildflowers were wonderful, so many great colors and the girls loved them. They look like angels in their white dresses amongst the petals. It was a very busy spot with two wedding parties showing up around the same time that we did, but we all worked it out. Rockin' Evening with Zound Sounds

Zound Sounds is Shangri-la for music lessons! We found it through a friend and are hooked! Our son takes weekly lessons there with the owner, Mark. Three or four times a year they get the kids together in bands and put on concerts (recitals for others). They find these cool venues, for the kids to really feel like they are doing a gig. Our band performed She Talks To Angels by The Black Crowes and they rocked it! Great Job to everyone! Our friend John performed too and you can see him in the bottom photo on the left.

Girls Galore

Sisters-in-law, pregnant at the same time, and both have little girls. Ok, wow, but it gets better....they are both having girls again!!!! Yea!
I got a surprise call from a friend asking me to take photos of them because her daughter was due the next day (she is the one twirling her daughter around, can you believe it???). I absolutely had a blast! The two oldest cousins took running at me literally and plowed me over and we all rolled around on the ground and giggled. Best of luck to both of you ladies, motherhood is a wonderous journey! Thanks for a fun afternoon in the park!

These two are gorgeous and I could literally not get a bad photo of them. OK, so I had an easy day, I absolutely love my job!! So it didn't matter that we ran (literally) from one end of the Arboretum to the other and found every picturesque spot along the way!

I can't wait, as I am also fortunate enough to get to shoot their wedding in May. These lovebirds are fabulous and we are going to have such a fun time! Thanks for a super morning you two! Open up your eyes and see like me.....

I absolutely adore this family and I don't think I have laughed and enjoyed myself more than during this shoot! We had a blast! The girls were adorable, mood swings and all! The Ham was delicious, the mac & cheese devine! But the best was the fun had in the back yard by the cousins! A great afternoon was had by all, especially the photographer! People, People, People everywhere, but we still found beautiful spots to capture wonderful memories! I think everyone in Dallas thought that is was the perfect day to go to the Arboretum, too. Thank you to my friend Callyn for recommending me to Julie and her sister Stacey! Stacey's little angel was such a joy to photograph! We had a lot of fun trying to figure out different ways to get her to smile. Grown women can really turn into kiddos, when they have to.

There are two places that I enjoy photographing the kiddos with pumpkins, one is in Flower Mound and the other is at the Arboretum. If you want to set up a session to capture the wonder of pumpkins, this is the perfect time.
